The tour from Havneholm to Havnestad gives a good insight into the shift from industrial harbour to the harbour as a recreational zone. On this walk you will experience an almost fully developed part of the Copenhagen Harbour with new bike bridges and maritime spaces at the harbour islet.

The ‘Havneholm’ is almost fully developed with spectacular residential and commercial buildings. You will on this walk experience at close quarters how the old bridge district of Vesterbro has been closely linked to Amager and Ørestad thanks to the Brygge Bridge and Copenhagen’s new cycle bridge The Bicycle Snake.

The walk takes you through the new maritime courtyard in Lundgaard & Tranberg’s residential complex ‘Havneholmen’ and pass The Aller House on the city side of the harbour.

We continue over the Brygge Bridge with the many love padlocks and here you will discover the actual physical experience of how much a bridge means in terms of mobility in the city.

The residential neighbourhood of Havnestad is the only complex between the harbour and the big recreational area ‘Amager Fælled’ – a former military area, now preserved. ‘Havnestad’ has been developed at the site of the former soya bean cake factory. Three of the silos from the era of the Soya Bean Cake were preserved and transformed into modern housing, the seed silo with the assistance of the Dutch firm, MVRDV.

Whereas Havnestad is finished, further south Islands Brygge is still in a state of transformation from an industrial area to a modern urban, residential neighbourhood.

You will on this walk from Havneholm to Havnestad learn the history of the harbour’s past and not least the exciting plans for the future.
