The district of Nordhavn is situated in Copenhagen’s north harbor, where new urban development meets former industrial sites. Nordhavn is the city’s new district, featuring beautiful transformations of silos, sustainable solutions, a harbor bath and a metro line.

Nordhavn will be developed in phases in keeping with the city’s growth as a whole and to ensure a sustainable approach. The first phase is almost completed, and plans for the future phases have been decided, so there is a lot to see and talk about on the tour.

Just 15 years ago, Nordhavn was surrounded by fences and checkpoints as it was a part of Copenhagen’s free port. Today, the district is the city’s foremost example of a modern transformation of a harbor area.

Art studios and architectural firms are moving to Nordhavn, which features a mix of housing types, an attractive waterfront location, and fascinating traces of the old industrial harbor.

The area has been developed based on a comprehensive master plan dating back to 2008, when thinking about social, economic and environmental sustainability had not yet become mainstream. Today, we can see the results.
