Talk: This Is Not a Forest
Is it possible to create a sense of forest in the middle of the city? DAC is making the attempt with the installation This is Not a Forest. Come and hear the people behind the exhibition talk about the installation in a conversation with DACs curator, Pernille Stockmarr, about sensory architecture—about wood, design, and scents.

With this year’s 3daysofdesign festival in Copenhagen (June 10–12) as its point of departure, you can experience a spatial installation at DAC that follows the journey of wood.
From the raw tree trunk at Bryghuspladsen, to the green, freshly felled wood on the staircase, and further into processed material and a digital forest in DACs foyer.
In DACs foyer, we have created a “forest” of tree trunks where light, sound, and scent evoke a sense of nature. Two audio tracks interpret the sounds of the forest – from the deep roots to the high canopies.
This is Not a Forest is not a forest in the traditional sense, but a spatial experience that translates the materials, atmospheres, and invisible layers of the forest into architecture. Here, wood is not only a building material, design not only a form, and scent not only an atmosphere. Together, they form an installation that explores how we experience space with the whole body.
In the talk, you will meet Archival, Dinesen Lab and Studio Pneuma, each of whom has contributed to the installation. Archival is responsible for the spatial design and staging.
Dinesen Lab provides the wood and the material narrative that connects forest, craftsmanship, and architecture. Studio Pneuma has created the scents that open up the more intangible and sensory dimensions of the space.
Join us to learn more about sensory architecture, and how sound and scent can be just as significant to our sensory perception as the real thing.
