When Børsen caught fire on 16th April 2024, Denmark lost one of its most iconic landmarks. In this episode, we visit the historic building during its reconstruction and speak with Mette Tony, co-founder of Praksis Architects, about the challenges of rebuilding an important piece of Danish cultural heritage.
How do you restore a building with 400 years of history, and which version of Børsen should rise from the ashes?
About Mette Tony
Mette Tony (b. 1971) is an architect and construction economist. She is a co-founder of the architecture studio Praksis, which she established with Mads Bjørn Hansen in 2006.
She is involved in all of the studio’s projects, which span a wide range of scales and functions – with a particular focus on buildings and cultural environments of significant historical value and architectural quality.
Mette Tony has received some of Denmark’s most prestigious architectural awards and honors, including the Eckersberg Medal, the Nykredit Architecture Prize, the Dreyer Foundation Honorary Award, and the Henning Larsen Honorary Award.
She originally trained as an architect at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in Copenhagen.
