But its message is more relevant than ever. Loving your bike isn’t just great for you—it’s great for the environment too. That’s why we’re sharing five green cycling routes in Copenhagen, so you can go even greener as you ride around the city.

Green bike routes in Copenhagen

  • Nørrebro Route (4 km)

    Running along a former railway line through the dense city, the Nørrebro Route is a popular urban ride.

    Starting on Tagensvej in Nørrebro, the route takes you through Superkilen’s playful public spaces, Nørrebro Park, and the historic gardens of the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University in Frederiksberg.

  • Harbor Circle (13 km)

    Experience both historic and contemporary architecture along this route that follows both sides of Copenhagen’s harbor. The northernmost point is the Inner Harbor Bridge, and the southernmost is Sluseholmen. Along the way, you’ll pass iconic Nyhavn, cycle across the red Circle Bridge, and see new developments at Havneholmen.

  • The Lakes Route (6 km)

    This attractive route offers beautiful views of the Lakes and serves both as a recreational path and a daily commuter route. Starting at the northern end of Sortedams Lake and ending at the Bicycle Snake, it creates a scenic connection across the city.

  • Carlsberg Route (5 km)

    Starting at Copenhagen Central Station, this route begins with the raw urban landscape and modern city spaces of Vesterbro. It takes you through the heart of the district, past Halmtorvet, the Meatpacking District, and Sønder Boulevard, before ending in Valby.

  • University Route (3 km)

    From Kalvebod Brygge near Fisketorvet, you can cycle along the Bicycle Snake and continue via Bryggebroen to Amager Fælled, the University of Copenhagen, and DR Byen. The route offers a great mix of lively urban spaces and green areas.
