Why Architects Love Dinesen
Dinesen’s solid wood floors can be found in museums, galleries, flagship stores, and historic buildings around the world.
In this episode of Let’s Talk Architecture, Michael Booth visits the family-owned company in Southern Jutland to explore why architects continue to return to these extraordinary planks.

At Dinesen, architecture begins with the material itself. For more than 128 years, the family-owned company has worked with wood, craftsmanship, and quality on a scale that has made its floors a preferred choice for some of the world’s leading architecture firms.
In this episode of Let’s Talk Architecture, host Michael Booth travels to Southern Jutland to meet Hans Peter Dinesen, Creative Director at Dinesen. Their conversation explores the relationship between architects and materials, the unique role of wood in spaces and buildings – and why a floor can be far more than something we walk on.
The episode also visits Orbi, an experimental summer community where architecture students, artists, and creatives work with wood, craftsmanship, and landscape. Tune in to get closer to a material that shapes architecture from the ground up.

About Hans Peter Dinesen
Hans Peter Dinesen represents the fifth generation of the Dinesen family. He serves as Creative Director of the Southern Jutland–based family company, which has worked with wood, craftsmanship, and solid plank flooring since 1898. To him, wood is not simply a building material, but a living material that connects architecture with nature, the senses, and time. In his work, he is deeply engaged with how wood can create spaces defined by presence, quality, and longevity – and with the responsibility that comes with turning materials from the forest into buildings designed to last for generations.
