The Danish Dream Home Comes to Venice
The Biennale Architettura 2027 will be curated by Chinese architects Wang Shu and Lu Wenyu founders of Amateur Architecture Studio.

Under the main theme Do Architecture – For the Possibility of Coexistence Facing a Real Reality, they explore how architecture can respond to the challenges of our time and create opportunities for coexistence between people, nature, and culture in a rapidly changing world.
In the Danish Pavilion, curators Dominique Hauderowicz and Kristian Ly Serena turn their attention to the single-family house - one of the world’s most sought after housing typologies. Through this housing form, they investigate how architecture can foster new possibilities for community building, coexistence and wellbeing.
The SIngle-Family House through a lens of Future Living
For generations, the single-family house has been at the heart of everyday life, family aspirations and ideas of what makes a good home. In the Danish Pavilion, the curators will explore the single-family house as both a cultural and architectural phenomenon, asking what new dreams, ideals and forms of community could inspire people to embrace the sustainable transformation of suburban neighbourhoods.
“The Biennale Architettura 2027´s theme challenges us to confront the reality we inhabit and asks how architecture can help strengthen connections between people across traditions and cultures. In this context, our exhibition in the Danish Pavilion will explore how the single-family house can evolve and adapt in response to contemporary demographic, socio-economic and environmental challenges,” say curators Dominique Hauderowicz and Kristian Ly Serena of Studio dominique + serena.
“The single-family house is deeply embedded in modern Danish housing culture, but the questions it raises extend far beyond Denmark’s borders. How do we preserve the qualities that have made this housing type attractive to generations of people while developing new ways of living and creating communities? We look forward to continuing this conversation with Danish and international audiences in the Danish Pavilion in Venice and at DAC in Copenhagen,” says Kent Martinussen, CEO of the Danish Architecture Center and Commissioner of the Danish Pavilion.
The 20th International Architecture Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia will take place from 8 May to 21 November 2027.
For the First Time: Opening Simultaneously in Venice and Denmark
The themes explored in the Danish Pavilion will also be brought to life in Denmark. In spring 2027, the Danish Architecture Center (DAC) will open the exhibition Rethinking the Danish Dream, examining what it is that we love about this housing type and how qualities such as freedom, privacy, family life, community and wellbeing can be reimagined and carried forward into new forms of living for the future.
Traditionally, the Danish contribution to the Biennale Architettura 2027 has only been presented to Danish audiences after the Biennale has closed. In 2027, that will change. The exhibition Rethinking the Danish Dream will open simultaneously with the presentation in the Danish Pavilion, allowing audiences in Denmark and Venice alike to engage with the same questions about home, community and how we might live in the future.
The exhibition Rethinking the Danish Dream will be on view at the Danish Architecture Center from 13 May to 17 October 2027.

About the Biennale Architettura 2027
The International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia – is the world’s largest architecture event and takes place every two years in Venice. More than 60 countries, including Denmark, participate with exhibitions in the historic pavilions of the Giardini, the Arsenale and venues across the city. The main theme of the Biennale Architettura 2027 is Do Architecture — For the Possibility of Coexistence Facing a Real Reality, curated by Wang Shu and Lu Wenyu of Amateur Architecture Studio.
The Single-Family House Dilemma and Agenda Earth
Dominique Hauderowicz and Kristian Ly Serena also lead the single-family house dilemma, a project within Agenda Earth—an initiative that explores the future of the built environment and the landscapes we inhabit while examining the regulatory frameworks needed to make that future possible.
The initiative is led by the Danish Association of Architects and developed in collaboration with Dreyer’s Foundation, which also supports the project. Through research, architectural proposals and public debate, the project investigates the future of the single-family house. Insights and findings from this work will inform the development of the Danish contribution to the 20th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia.
