Practical information for daycare groups and school classes

The Danish Architecture Center welcomes all children and young people to educational experiences that inspire them to see architecture with fresh eyes. To help you get the most out of your visit, we’ve gathered a few helpful tips on this page.

Good to know

  • Arrival

When you arrive at the Danish Architecture Center, please check in at the Welcome Desk. Everyone in your group must wear a sticker visibly while moving around the building.

    • Bags, drinks, and food are not allowed inside and must be left in the coat check. Lockers are free to use and can be secured with a 4-digit code.
    • Children/students must always be accompanied by a teacher or adult chaperone while visiting the Danish Architecture Center.

Book a self-guided visit

Daycare groups, schools, upper secondary programs, higher education, and teachers/educators visiting with children, students, or learners can book a self-guided visit to the Danish Architecture Center free of charge.

  • Please book your visit in advance. If you arrive without a booking, you may still be admitted if there is space.
  • Groups and classes visiting the Danish Architecture Center are asked to be considerate of scheduled teaching sessions and guided tours taking place that day.
  • In special circumstances, the Danish Architecture Center may decline a booking for a self-guided visit.

Do you have a question or enquiry?

Fill in the form and we’ll make sure your message reaches the right place. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

We’re always happy to answer questions about our educational programmes. Ask when you visit DAC, fill in the form, or call +45 3257 1930.

  • Packed lunches

Unfortunately, DAC doesn’t have a space where you can eat food you’ve brought with you. The exception is daycare or school groups who have booked a teaching program in the Educatorium. In that case, packed lunches can be eaten by prior arrangement.

You’re welcome to eat packed lunches in the area around BLOX and along Frederiksholms Canal.

  • Exhibitions

We love welcoming curious children and students. But we also need to make room for everyone—including other visitors. Please help us by being considerate.

Please don’t run or shout, and stay together as a class/group.

We can’t wait to see you!

See, touch, listen, and play!

In the Educatorium, you can experience firsthand what happens when architecture is, for example, “out of scale.” Use all your senses, get inspired by architectural drawings and models, and try drawing, building, and designing for yourself.

  • Ask us

When you visit DAC’s exhibitions on your own, you’ll meet some of our friendly DAC hosts. A host can answer practical questions and is happy to explain the exhibitions’ themes and content in a way that’s engaging and easy for children and students to understand.

So if you’re curious about why there are apartments on top of BLOX—or have questions about an exhibition—talk to one of our gallery hosts. They’re passionate about architecture and ready to share what they know.

  • DAC Slide

All our young visitors love the DAC Slide. However, there are special safety rules you must follow before trying it. Teachers/educators and children/students should review these rules before taking the ride down four floors. The safety rules are shown on a screen by the DAC Slide.

Children/students must always be accompanied by a teacher or adult.

We’re located in BLOX

BLOX is Denmark’s world of architecture, design, and new ideas. The building was designed by the world-renowned Dutch architecture firm OMA, led by Partner/Director Ellen van Loon.

DAC is located at the heart of BLOX, which also includes offices, a fitness center, restaurants, and 22 rental apartments at the top. DAC has three exhibition galleries, our children’s universe Educatorium, conference rooms, the art installation DAC Slide, a Design Shop, and spectacular views of the city from the café and its large rooftop terraces.

Did you know that about 25,000 cars pass through BLOX every day? The building is constructed around a busy road. In fact, five floors of BLOX are below the road and five floors are above it. And did you know BLOX is built to last 300 years?
