A housing cooperative in Barcelona. A social housing development with a courtyard in Cornellà de Llobregat. A 24/7 study and leisure building for university students in London. A renovated school in Turin. A museum and art house in the heart of Hasselt’s city center. A large, horizontal building creating a community in the heart of Berlin. And a local gathering spot in Paris where residents meet and vegetables are cultivated. These are the seven projects you can experience in the exhibition.
A home, a school, a museum, a community. We move around cities and villages, enjoying the sight of buildings, squares, and parks. We remember our old school and observe people socializing with their friends in the local community. Each street and every house evoke a different feeling. How these different places make us feel has much to do with the decisions architects make together with the people who live there and the many others who contribute to shaping the architecture. EUmies Awards recognize places that enable a better quality of life and embrace innovation.
EUmies Awards were founded in 1988 in Barcelona by the Mies van der Rohe Foundation and the European Union’s program supporting cultural and creative sectors. This annual prize celebrates outstanding architectural works in Europe, encompassing the categories of “Architecture and Emerging”, as well as graduation projects from young architects, known as “Young Talent”.
