Musiktorvet, located outside Amager’s biggest music venue and Copenhagen’s only cultural center for children, has improved conditions for street culture with a unique outdoor stage structure.

Throughout the summer The Musiktorvet is a dynamic, multifunctional urban space hosting everything from concerts and theatre to circus, markets and various cultural events. Three stages accommodate both large events and small, including spontaneous performances happening in a unified design characterised by a pop art-inspired graphic pavement.

A large new landmark outdoor space, Scenen – meaning ‘The Stage’ – faces Øresundsvej and is one of three public zones. Hovering over Scenen is a spectacular, seemingly floating roof in reflective, perforated aluminium panels that stands on five steel columns.

A transparent, airy and flexible steel curtain acts as the seamless backdrop for concerts, and can be drawn to make the space more intimate and closed when needed.

Exterior and interior merge in a playful-yet-sophisticated manner and Dagligstuen, or ‘The Sitting Room’, is an extension of the café and a rather intimate outdoor area with planters, cosy lighting, benches and tables. With its sculptural wooden furniture, Plænen (‘The Lawn’) has an exotic lounge feel to it and doubles as a play area for Musiktorvet’s youngest visitors.

The Plaza is home to the music venues of Amager Bio, BETA, Børnekulturhus Ama’r and Loftet, a culture house and local arts centre with creative workshops and recreational activities.
