80s-style Brutalism meets soft, contemporary lines. During Open House, you’re invited to take a look inside the gigantic complex of the Maersk Tower and Panum, and enjoy the beautiful view from the 15th floor.

A few years ago, Copenhagen’s Brutalism stronghold was expanded with an elegant and extroverted addition – Maersk Tower. Panum, with its geometric shapes and cold, harsh concrete, was built in the mid-80s – but in 2017 it was joined by Maersk Tower’s soft lines and warm copper facade.

From Closed to Open

Many a joke has been told about how well the architects behind Panum hid the main entrance. And finding the old entrance nestled in the courtyard opening onto Nørre Allé is undoubtedly a feat.

With the Maersk Tower, however, Panum’s looming presence has been opened up and the total area has been significantly expanded. The new main building is situated on Blegdamsvej, where an open forecourt integrates the building with the surrounding neighborhood, letting life in.

Visible Research

The architecture is a reflection of one of today’s clear trends: research should be visible and should interact with the world around it.

During Open House, you can gain insight into the infrastructure required to produce health research of highest international caliber and to educate the dentists and doctors of the future.

Look out over the city from the 15th floor, learn about the technology behind a state-of-the-art sustainable building, see how 1980s Brutalism meets the soft lines of contemporary architecture, and admire the art hanging on the walls throughout the complex. In short: Visit the Maersk Tower and Panum, and experience life at a modern university.
